For families, the strongest Port Elizabeth suburbs are generally Sunridge Park, Mill Park, Walmer, Lorraine, and Charlo/Broadwood, because they’re known for good schools, a more settled residential feel, and everyday convenience.
BEST FAMILY AREAS
Walmer: This area is leavy, well established with larger stand sizes and close to schools, shops, and central routes. The Walmer area is very diverse. Be specific when searching online for properties in Walmer. The price range as well as safety and security can differ a lot.
Mill Park: This area is quiet, park-like, and popular with families who want a calmer setting. Home to Grey Junior and Grey High Schools, Mill Park is on the higher end of the price scale, when comparing suburbs. Most of the stand sizes are smaller in size and the rates and taxes are more expensive than the other areas. Mill Park is very convenient if you consider enrolling your boy in Grey, as it is within walking distance to the school and one of the safer areas.
Sunridge Park: There is a strong demand from families for homes in Sunridge Park, especially where school access matters. Sunridge Park Primary School is very popular among the Afrikaans speaking community. This area is one of the safer areas in Port Elizabeth.
Charlo/Broadwood: This area has a community feel and a generally family-friendly atmosphere. Charlo Primary is a good school and very popular.
Lorraine: This area has modern family homes, larger stands and easy access to amenities. Lorraine Primary School is very popular. Lorraine is more affordable, yet a commute if you work in other areas of Port Elizabeth.
